Chapter 14: ‘Treat you well’ (4)

In actuality, the solution did not come from Liang Dou Kou herself but rather, a brain-child of her manager. The main pushing force behind Liang Dou Kou’s awe-inspiring success is undoubtedly the hefty sums and efforts the management company invested in her. Now that is she is at the peak of her career, it is finally time for the company to harvest the returns and reap profits. Therefore, they would definitely not stand by and watch as her career dip due to her illness. Needless to say when Liang Dou Kou was just confirmed for a role in a drama promising a billion dollar paycheck.

In reality, although Qin Zhi Ai and Liang Dou Kou’s features do look similar, there are still differences that can be spotted with a keen eye. However, these difference could be made up for with the magic of make up, allowing Qin Zhi Ai to successfully pass off as the real Liang Dou Kou in dramas.

On one hand, the most similar features between Qin Zhi Ai and Liang Dou Kou are their eyes and lips, seeming like they were made from the same mold, virtually identical. Even Qin Zhi Ai herself could not accurately differentiate herself from Liang Dou Kou most of the time if the eyes are covered.

On the other hand, the glaring difference between them is their eyes. Qin Zhi Ai has a pair of captivating eyes that garners praises from the masses while Liang Dou Kou’s eyes were artificially modified through plastic surgery. Although her eyes, too, were captivating after the application of make up, it still lacked the clarity and spirit present in Qin Zhi Ai’s eyes.

Thankfully for the advent of eye makeup that managed to mend the differences upon application, Qin Zhi Ai was able to avoid being busted while operating under Liang Dou Kou’s name.

Nevertheless, initially when Liang Dou Kou’s manager raised this idea of letting Qin Zhi Ai substitute Liang Dou Kou, Liang Dou Kou had fervently rejected it.

However, after some unknown circumstances, Liang Dou Kou unexpectedly changed her mind, even requesting a solo meeting with Qin Zhi Ai.

As one might expect, nobody naturally wishes to be a substitute, to be someone else’s shadow. Qin Zhi Ai is no exception. As to why she agreed, the reason is simple, she lacks money.

Some people may find that a ludicrous excuse but in this world there are many people who lacks money, and Qin Zhi Ai is merely just one of them. If not for that reason, she would not have given up on her studies in university to take up a stunt double job that is filled with untold hardships and danger.

Her father got addicted to gambling two years ago and gambled away all valuables at home. He eventually died on the gambling table but not before leaving a huge debt for the family. Since then, herself, her mother and little brother had not lived a single day of peaceful life, being constantly harassed by the loan sharks. Therefore, assuming responsibilities as the elder daughter, she could only drop out of school and start working to pay off the debts.

Having investigated Qin Zhi Ai before requesting to meet, Liang Dou Kou was able to address the heart of her concern first thing in their meeting, “I can pay off all the debts your family owed but other than being my substitute for projects assigned by the company, you have to substitute me in getting married.”

The terms are attractive, no? Especially considering that Qin Zhi Ai was sick of having to hide and live in constant fear.

Liang Dou Kou then proceeded to supplement her speech with a photo, “This is the man I’m marrying, Gu Corporation’s only successor, Gu Yu Sheng.”

Gu Yu Sheng…

The Gu Yu Sheng whom she knew she wanted to spend her life with ever since she laid eyes on him.

The Gu Yu Sheng whom she wanted to ask why he did not come for the date but instead stared at her and asked his companion who she is.

The Gu Yu Sheng whom she thought she wouldn’t have anymore intersection with.
